What is it?
Apple Pay uses the iPhone or Apple Watch NFC technology to communicate with Ticketer ETMs in order to either pay using a saved payment card or validate a saved travel card. Previously this required the user to unlock the phone or watch using Face ID, Touch ID or by entering a passcode. Apple’s update now allows the user to make travel payments without unlocking the phone.
Paying for a journey with Express Travel
For a passenger to use the Express Travel payment method on their iPhone or Apple Watch the device must be turned on but does not have to be connected to a network.
- Hold the top of the iPhone or display of the Apple Watch near the centre of the Ticketer ETM contactless reader
- When the iPhone or Apple Watch vibrates the passenger can remove it
- Confirmation of payment will be displayed on the iPhone or Apple Watch screen as ‘Done’ with a tick symbol
