Did you know? - Through Fares

TicketerThrough Fares feature enables passengers to purchase a ticket to their end destination, even if it is not on the route of the service they have boarded. With this feature, Ticketer ETMs can be set up to seamlessly sell through fare tickets to destinations that require one or more connecting services.

What is it?

A Through Fare is the fare charged from the point of boarding, to a destination which is not on the current route. The advantage for the passenger is that they only need to purchase one ticket for their journey, even though they may need to join one or more connecting services to reach their end destination.

Typically, such fares are set up with inefficient and complex workarounds by adding the additional fares stages to the end of the route. Whilst this works in practice on the outbound services, it can mean that the inbound service contains fare stages which are not actually on that service.

In the Ticketer System, we have included explicit support for adding Through Stages to any service, allowing tickets to be issued to the fare stages required, but without adding those as conventional fare stages on that service.

Requirements

The Through Fares feature can readily be enabled on the ETM, and will only require minor additional setup by the operator when inputting services and fares.

Using Through Fares in the Ticketer System

Once Through Fares have been added to a service, they are easily identified in the interface by specific colour coding.

This approach has been similarly adopted on the ETM, ensuring the driver is aware which fare stages are normal vs. Through Stages.

In Summary…

  • Ticketer’s Through Fares feature allows operators to set up tickets to Through Fare Stages, avoiding complex and inefficient workarounds.
  • Through Stages are visually highlighted on the portal for easy setup and configuration.
  • Drivers also know instantly which fare stages are Through Stages as they are clearly highlighted on the ETM.
