Grant Palmer launches Bedfordshire’s first Pay-As-You-Go capped bus travel with Ticketer’s Tap Off Readers

22 April 2022

Grant Palmer will be rolling out contactless payments with Ticketer from 25 April 2022.

Grant Palmer Limited, Bedfordshire’s independent bus operator since 1999, are launching contactless payments with Ticketer’s Tap Off readers across their entire fleet from 25 April.

The Tap On / Tap Off model will offer a seamless contactless payment experience for all passengers. Customers will only need to tap their card or contactless device on the existing Ticketer Electronic Ticket Machine (ETM) when boarding the bus and tap off on the new Tap Off reader as they leave.

The new ticketing system will speed up boarding times and simplify the payment process, keeping customers assured that they get the best possible fare, every time. Customers will never pay more than the daily or monthly caps, and can easily check their payment history using the Grant Palmer website. Payment by cash and mobile tickets will still be available.

At launch there will be six capped zones across the network:

  • Bedford Zone One
  • Luton and Dunstable Zone
  • Luton busway
  • Leighton Buzzard
  • Milton Keynes

Thomas Manship, Executive Assistant for Grant Palmer Limited, says: “It has been great to work with Ticketer on this project. With their Tap Off readers we are now able to offer a Pay-As-You-Go model with fare capping for our customers. With simpler fares and greater flexibility to travel, we expect more passengers to come back to our buses and leave their cars at home.”

Antonio Carmona - TicketerAntonio Carmona, General Manager UK and International at Ticketer, comments: “The introduction of Pay-as-You-Go is a major improvement in how people pay for bus fares, and it is a key theme in the National Bus Strategy. PAYG fares are simpler and easier for passengers, and with Ticketer’s Tap On / Tap Off technology, it is a model that can be expanded beyond flat fare services. We are very pleased to work with an innovative operator like Grant Palmer to remove more barriers to accessing public transport.“
